Car Cleaning Hacks to Make Your Spring Cleaning Last

There’s nothing like taking the day on a nice day outside, and cleaning your car. I mean really cleaning your car – vacuuming, washing out the mats, dusting, going through a car wash, detailing it – only for it not to last. Well not to worry, this blog post is sure to help with that problem, and make for a long lasting effect too.

When the term ‘spring cleaning’ is said, most of us will automatically assume interior (cleaning out the rooms, reorganizing store away spaces, mopping and sweeping the floor, etc.), so when you read the word ‘car’ in the title it might have come as a shock. But yes, I mean, why not right? Your car deserves a good cleaning, just like every other space in your life.

1. Toothpaste on your what??

If you’re experiencing foggy headlights, you aren’t alone, but not to worry there is a simple hack to fix them – toothpaste. And yes, you read that right. Toothpaste is proven to be useful for more than just your oral health. Spread it around your foggy headlights, let it sit for a few minutes, and then clean it off. Just a few minutes is all you need to solve this issue. Easy I know right?

2. Toothbrush for your seats please

Since we are already raiding our bathroom for supplies, might as well grab the old toothbrush while you’re there. Toothbrushes are actually the perfect size to reach in between your car seats and get out the dirt that may have accumulated there. Although the best spot would be between your seats, the toothbrush can be used in different parts of the car too, pretty much anywhere that your vacuum can’t get to.

3. Window Washing with Baby Wipes

Having trouble getting rid of dirt and scum left on your windows? Never fear, baby wipes are here! They work effectively to remove any smear marks left overtime on the windows. Here’s a window cleaning tip, they are easier to clean if you wind them down a little bit. This way the WHOLE window can be cleaned, instead of only part of it.

4. Hair Conditioner = Shine

And for more than just your hair! Grab some conditioner and let’s get to work. Hair conditioner helps to give the car’s exterior the finishing touch it needs, and without all the extra costs. If it sounds crazy to you, chances are you aren’t alone, but hair conditioner actually gives the car the waxy look everyone is so desperately trying to go for. But make sure to use hair conditioner that contains an ingredient called lanolin.

5. It May Smell Bad, But it Works!

If you guessed rubbing alcohol, then ding ding ding, you are right! Dousing your wiper blades in rubbing alcohol helps to get rid of the streak marks left behind from precipitation and washer fluid. Although streaking is typically a sign that the blades need to be replaced, the alcohol helps them to stick around a little longer. If they are no longer leaving streak marks after the rubbing alcohol has been applied then they are okay.

6. Get that Fresh Feel With….Q-Tips!

Odors can come from any space in your car, but when they come from a hard to clean place (such as a vent) it becomes that much more annoying. But not to worry, we got you covered. A simple household item, a Q-Tip, is the solution to all your problems. Take a Q-Tip and scrub fast (with effort) around the vent. Make sure to get into those places that are not visible, this might be the source of the high odor you’re smelling. An important thing to keep in mind is that if there is mold, cleaning the vent really is pointless. Mold will not just “go away” with this type of cleaning. In this case, you need to replace the vent entirely.
