5 of the Most Affordable Hybrid Cars for 2025

With the increased trend that many automakers have hopped on in recent years, releasing hybrid versions of their more popular models seem to be going up. Many studies have shown and proven that hybrid cars are better than gas powered ones, but without knowing the key definitive parts that make a car a hybrid one, with the naked eye it may be hard to tell which is which. Now you have to evaluate your driving habits to really be able to make sure you are making the best decision for you. In many cases, people will tend to find the best fit for them is in fact a gas powered car, but just make sure to do your research first!

However, if you’ve determined this is the better option for you or are just purely curious enough to read about this, we will be discussing 5 of the most affordable hybrid cars you can buy in 2025 and what makes them so great.

Coming in at number 1 is the Toyota Corolla Hybrid. A brand new car in Canada will run you a bill of anywhere between $29,985 and $39,000 on the high end. It’s given an 8.0/10 rating for safety like many of the other cars that will be part of this list and definitely worth the purchase. Overall the vehicle offers exceptional fuel economy ratings, making numbers of 4.4L/100 KM in the city, 5.1L/100 KM on the highway, and 4.7L/100 KM combined for the front wheel drive versions. The power comes from 2 sources – a 1.8L 4 cylinder engine paired with an electric motor and an electronic Continuously Variable Transmission (eVTC) and makes a combined output of 138 horsepower. Now, yes, this is one of the slower cars that we have featured on our site, but still a great starter car nonetheless, and not to mention quite affordable!

Next on the list is the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid. Now, if you’ve read any of the posts we have released on Hyundai cars, you will know their safety, warranty, and maintenance packages are one of the best out there. So either way, choosing to go with a Hyundai car, and it doesn’t have to be the Elantra Hybrid, would make for a good choice. Okay now back to the 2025 release. In Canada to get your hands on one of these (brand new), it would cost $31,099 although the trim level you choose will affect the pricing. Under the hood, you will find a Smartstream 1.6L GDI engine combined with a 32kW electric motor and a 1.32kW lithium-ion battery. In terms of fuel economy ratings the Blue trim makes one of the best numbers – 51 city, 58 highway, 54 MPG combined whereas the SEL and Sport trims make 49 city, 52 highway, and 50 MPG combined.

Making it to spot number 3 is the Toyota Prius Hatchback. With a 10/10 safety rating you also wouldn’t be wrong going for this car and not to mention, if you remember anything from the blog post we released on the regular gas powered version a while ago, it was named Car of the Year in Canada in 2024 so that has to count for something right? For the 2025 release, it does come available in 2 main options: the standard hybrid (Prius) and the Prius Plug-In Hybrid (previously known as the Prius Prime). The standard Prius comes in AWD, makes 196 horsepower, and carries around an impressive fuel economy rating – 57 MPG combined, whereas the Prius Plug-In Hybrid also provides a pretty impressive all electric range (up to 44 miles before switching to hybrid mode), 220 horsepower, and a combined rating of 114 MPG when considering the electric range. Also for 2025, Toyota decided to release a Nightshade edition that comes with blacked out features and unique styling on the standard hybrid edition. In Canada, expect to pay around $40,050 for the Plug-In Hybrid SE model.

Number 4 on the list is the Toyota Camry Hybrid and I have to say wow this car looks really nice. A picture is included below, tell us in the comments, would you want to drive around in one of these? To buy one in Canada (brand new) it would cost anywhere between $34,300 and $44,950. This car is powered by a 2.5L 4 cylinder engine with a fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5) that offers up to 225 horsepower with Front Wheel Drive or 232 horsepower with available Electronic-On-Demand All Wheel Drive (eAWD). Like the other 3 cars on this list, the Toyota Camry Hybrid also makes excellent fuel economy ratings as the hybrid battery recharges automatically through regenerative braking giving no need for the vehicle to be plugged in, cool right?

Last but not least on the list is yup that’s right the Honda Civic Hybrid. Now, since I wrote about the 2025 version not too long ago, I won’t take away from that post since it does deserve to stand out on it’s own, so for this section I recommend you read all about it then come back here to finish reading this one!

Final Thoughts

I hope you enjoyed this short article and found it enlightening. Feel free to leave comments here about your favourite from this list and why. If you know me I’m sure you’ll know which one I’m choosing but I can’t be biased. All cars are nice, just not as nice as the one I love!
