Cars in Review: 2026 Lucid Gravity

Welcome to the first post of 2026! I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday season and are fully ready (or close to it) to get back into the grind. Here’s to another successful year for all and I hope this year brings us all the good we deserve. Okay now, wi32dsazcxthout any further adieu, let’s get into the first post! For this week’s Cars in Review we will be writing about the 2026 Lucid Gravity. We did cover a little background on the company itself in a post we released a couple years ago linked here, but for this post, we will do a bit of a bigger dive into the company history to bring this into full circle.

Company Overview

As mentioned in a previous post, Lucid Motors was established in 2007, so a pretty new addition to the automotive world, although they didn’t always start off making cars. The company started off making batteries for electric vehicles under the name Atieva before they partnered with a lithium ion cell maker, Lishen, to start producing battery packs for electric buses in China in 2011. In 2014, a state-owned carmaker, Beijing Automotive Industry Holding (BAIC) invested a 25% share into the company which really helped to kickstart things. Not too long after big name companies started following suit and did the same but it was a man by the name of Peter Rawlinson who really helped shake things up for the company in the best possible way.

He was known to the public eye as a businessman and British Engineer and joined the company in 2013 as their Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and board member with plenty of experience under his belt. He was working for Tesla previously as their Vice President of Engineering and Chief Engineer of one of their more popular models, the Model S. After he joined Atieva, he made a really big move, in only just a couple of years – he and his team rebranded the company to the name we know today, Lucid Motors, in October 2016 and officially announced the company’s new mission – develop an all electric, long range, high performance vehicle. In less than a month of the new name announcement another one was made on November 29, 2016, surrounding the construction of the $700 million USD manufacturing plant in Casa Grande, Arizona, which was projected to employ 2000 workers by the mid 2020s. The initial intent was to meet production standards of 20,000 cars per year gradually growing to 130,000 cars per year. In April 2019, Rawlinson took the new title of CEO while still maintaining his other roles as CTO and board member. Under his watchful eye, the first vehicles rolled off of the assembly line on September 28, 2021.

Gravity Overview

Lucid Motors teased the public eye with a new announcement surrounding what they called Project Gravity at the time in 2020. It was thought out to be a luxury electric SUV following the release of the Air Sedan and officially debuted in 2023 at a Los Angeles Auto Show. Production was slated for late 2024, as a 2025 model, at their Arizona plant and being marketed to the public as their solution to the luxury electric SUV problem. The company decided to equip this model with 7 seats and a 440+ mile range, ultimately aiming to be top of mind when it came to being a top tier family EV SUV.

Now if these names sound familiar yet strange to be associated with cars, you aren’t alone, however Lucid Motors does this on purpose. They have a couple of really key strategies they resort to as part of the naming process and the theory and explanations behind it are pretty cool. In general they tend to try to focus on using words with powerful associations that can also bring about intelligence, clarity, and drive the future of electric luxury in the right direction. They often like to connect the whole concept back to the brand’s origins and California inspiration, even adding a bear to their logo to signify its heritage. Another really key part to its naming process is also thanks to their decision to work alongside brand experts, like Lexicon Branding for example, who interestingly enough actually ended up naming the Air model.

The company decided to choose these names for their cars for the following reasons:

  • Lucid Air: Associations with lightness, range, and clarity, ultimately making it stand out in the EV market
  • Lucid Gravity: A strong, evocative name that hints at the wonderful strides advanced engineering has been making and giving it a significant presence. It helps build on their theme of powerful yet elegant vehicles

What’s New for 2026?

The Gravity model is Lucid Motors’ newest release so essentially everything for 2026 is new. This is the second car in their line up following the Air model SUV that was initially released in 2021 (Pure and Touring), with 2 additional trim levels being released to the public in 2024 (Grand Touring and Sapphire).

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Lucid Motors offers this car in 3 different models – Touring, Grand Touring, and the Dream Edition. It is predicted that in the future Lucid Motors will release the same trim levels as they did for the Air SUV for this one but no release date has been assigned as of yet. Pricing for the three models are as follows: Touring – $81,550, Grand Touring – $96,550, and the Dream Edition – $141,550, with the recommended model to go for being the Touring trim since it is expected to be luxurious and come with a very generous amount of standard convenience and comfort features.

EV Motor, Power, and Performance

The source of power for this SUV actually comes from dual electric motors with all wheel drive as standard. There are rumours going around that a rear wheel drive option will be available but we will just have to wait and see. Lucid Motors decided to stick with what they found worked best in their Air model, offering the Gravity model in two of the same trim levels, Touring and Grand Touring, allowing for numbers of 560 and 828 horsepower to be produced respectively. The Dream Edition however, sees a way higher maximum horsepower at 1070 although the Sapphire edition is thought out to have the highest maximum horsepower in the line up at 1234. The entry level trim, what Lucid Motors decided to call Pure, offers 480 horsepower.

Now, this electric SUV has a feature that many gearheads would find really interesting, especially given the rarity of seeing this on an electric SUV or electric car in general. Can you guess what it is? Lucid Motors added an air-spring suspension as standard which as you might already know is very far and few for electric SUV’s. But they did this for a couple of reasons, and yes, more than just to stand out in the crowd. Adding an air-spring suspension allowed Lucid Motors to provide an exceptional blend of ride comfort, performance, versatility (which includes off-road capability), and energy efficiency. Ultimately it helps to enhance the driver’s experience behind the wheel while still functioning as an everyday car.

0-60 MPH Times

When it comes to the 0-60 MPH times two trims were tested, the Touring trim which made it in a slower 3.7 seconds (although it would be considered quick for a three row SUV) and the Dream Edition which made it in 3.1 seconds, granting the title of fastest SUV ever tested by Car and Driver.

Towing and Payload

The 2026 Lucid Motors Gravity has the capability of towing up to 6000 pounds.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

The Gravity Grand Touring’s estimated range is 450-miles which is longer than the most efficient Rivian R1S and Tesla Model X, although it falls short when compared to its sedan sibling that has the capability to make it up to 516 miles per charge with its 112.0 kWh battery pack. The Touring Edition does sport a smaller battery pack with only 89 kWh but the EPA estimates that the max capacity output it will have is up to 337 miles per charge. Similar to the Air, Gravity has the same DC fast charging system and even Lucid Motors claims up to 200 miles of range can be added to the battery in just 15 minutes of charging on a 300 kW connection.

Fuel Economy and Real World MPG

For this section, the Dream Edition was tested and produced the following numbers: 90 MPGe combined, 91 MPGe city, and 87 MPGe highway. The other models were not tested in time for the release of this blog.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

As seen in its initial model release of Air, Lucid Motors is no stranger to luxury and they surely were not going to compromise that with this new edition. Through the creation of a nice, spacious cabin made from fancy and stylish materials, one would never once question the authenticity of their choices. They also give the consumer the chance to choose between two options for the interior when it comes to the seating arrangements, either a two or three row layout is offered, with the three row option coming with and additional option of adding either a second row bench or a pair of captains chairs increasing the capacity to 6 or 7 passengers.

The interior design can be credited to the Air model although the Gravity model would be considered more of a family friendly car. The second and third rows of seating can easily be folded all the way down taking up surprisingly very little space helping to create a huge amount of interior space, even going as far as mirroring the space found in a mini-van. 6 carry-on suitcases can fit behind the third row area, 19, that’s right, you read that correctly, 19 cases behind the second row, and 38 suitcases when all the seats are folded. I would totally agree with you if you decided to get this SUV for this purpose alone.

The centre console is another pretty cool feature of this SUV since it features reconfigurable bins and cubbies, a pair of picnic tables with built in device charging pods that deploy from the front seats for rear seat passengers, and useful trunk storage provides a space to put those items you always brought “just in case” but never needed.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Lucid Motors likes to think of themselves as a jack of all trades, or more than just a one trick pony if you will, so when it comes to the infotainment systems, you better believe they are not lacking in this area either. Frankly, as you read and continue to read in this post, you’ll get a better understanding as to why Car and Driver gave this car an overall rating of 10/10 and I personally think it’s well deserved. To drive this point home, Lucid Motors decided to add a 34.0 inch curved display touchscreen that serves every purpose under the sun, including acting as a speedometer. Again, thanks to inspiration taken from the Air model, Lucid Motors created the same floating display setup over the dashboard although the layout is slightly different and runs on a completely changed, new and improved, infotainment software. Additionally, there is a second display that is mounted to the dash on the right-hand side of the steering wheel that provides access to a wider range of vehicle functions that also includes climate control. Interestingly enough, although if you’ve been following the trend that Lucid Motors has been going with, the next set of words will not shock you. Nonetheless, a head up display with augmented reality navigation system is also available. All models do come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

Although a full list of standard safety features has yet to be released by the company itself, it is rumoured to reflect quite similar to those found in their Air model. Key standard safety features include:

  • Standard adaptive cruise control with lane centering feature
  • Standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  • Standard lane departure warning with lane keeping assist

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

When it comes to the warranty and maintenance coverage for the 2026 Lucid Motors Gravity, overall it is said the coverage is quite similar to the one that Tesla Motors offers, which most people don’t like to hear. Lucid Motors offers the following:

  • Limited warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty covers 8 years or 100,000 miles
  • No complimentary scheduled maintenance
