Sports Cars in Review – Does THE sports car really exist?
Sports cars are so popular nowadays, its hard to not notice one on the road. A few well known cars will be reviewed for price, features, and safety. Is there really such a thing as THE sports car?
Toyota – Supra (Sports Car)
The Toyota Supra is a car that has been around since 1978 and there are 4 generations (between 1978-2002) before the current model (2019-present). Pricing for the 2021 2.0 litre four cylinder GR Supra (with a 255 horsepower engine!) starts from $56, 390. In terms of features they are as follows:
- Air intake – The large air intakes are designed to channel air directly to the engine
- Headlights – Six lens LED headlights give a signature look to the vehicle
- Double Bubble Roof – The shape of the roof reduces aerodynamic drag giving the vehicle the ability to freely move around
This car is as safe as they come and the safety features come standard. Not only does it have a back up camera with a 8.8″ display screen, pre-collision system warning with pedestrian detection, and forward collision warning, it also has road side assist which lets the driver know the speed limits, stop signs, do not enter signs and yield signs, and displays them on the multi information display – and there’s so many more safety features than this.
It feels rare to see a Supra on the road but I would recommend getting one if you can afford it because I mean why not right?
Subaru BRZ (Sports Car)
The Subaru BRZ is a beautiful looking car and actually doesn’t cost too much – the 2022 version starts from $31,000. Unlike the Toyota Supra, the Subaru BRZ has a 2.4 litre flat 4 cylinder (boxer) engine and packs 228 horsepower under the hood. As for features within this car there are many that come standard – 8.0″ touchscreen with physical knobs and hard buttons for tuning and volume functions, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and access to SiriusXM satellite radio, 7.0″ fully digital gauge cluster as well as either a six manual or six speed automatic transmission – just to name a few. This car also sits lower to the ground (0.5 inches lower) and is 1 inch longer than before, and it introduces the second generation of Subaru lightweight sports cars.
Key safety features of this car include:
- Forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking
- Lane departure warning and lane keeping assist
- Adaptive cruise control
Despite all this, I’m still choosing the Supra over this only because of the safety features, I mean could you really feel any safer than being in a Supra?
Honda Civic Type R (FK8) (Sports Car)
Last but certainly not least, is the Honda Civic Type R (FK8). This car is another stunning looking vehicle and so if I were asked to choose (looks wise) between these three, I would have a very hard time for sure. The 2021 Civic Type R starts from $47,985, but its still within the price range like the other two. Did you know it has a 306 horsepower engine? Features of this car include:
- VTEC engine – Better performance at high RPM
- Consumes less fuel at low RPM
- Burns fuel efficiently – Thanks to the turbocharging engine and direct injection
- Expanded grille opening – Allows for better engine cooling
- 20″ aluminum-alloy wheels – black with red accents
- Triple centre exhaust
And these are just to name a few! Safety features for this car that come standard are: Forward Collision Warning (FCW) System, Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) System, Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) System, and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)! If you don’t feel safe in this then I would be shocked.
So does THE sports car exist? Yes it does, and it’s whatever car YOU want it to be. For me personally, I think I would ultimately end up choosing the Honda Civic Type R (FK8) from these three ONLY because of the endless safety features it has AND it still looks like a car that keeps design top of mind.
