2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E
Ford has finally done it! They have entered the wonderful world of the Electronic Vehicle (well they are into the third year, but this is the first vehicle under the Ford name that is electric). It comes with a wide range of equipment packages and has a lot more to offer than just the sporty vibe that comes with the Mustang name. Customers will be able to choose between the content-rich Premium model or the souped-up performance of the GT. Ford even stands behind the fact that this car can travel for more than 300 miles before needing a charge.
This car stands out for more than one reason and not to mention its a real head turner – literally. If you see someone walking towards their Mach-E, take a moment to see how they get in, cause at first glance you will notice that there are no door handles. Yeah, you read that right. Ford has decided to replace the traditional handles with an itty-bitty finger handle on the back of the driver and passenger side doors. Just above that, there is an electronic button which pops the door open when pressed. The same concept is there for the rear doors too. Ford claims that it designed the buttons instead of door handles with children in mind, cause I mean who isn’t excited to push buttons?
What’s New for 2023?
Before we get into the specifics, let’s backtrack a little bit. The Ford Mustang Mach-E comes available in 4 models (or trims); Premium, California Route 1, GT, and GT Performance Edition. Now the next bit of information will make a little more sense, so let’s continue. For the third model year, the Premium trim gets a slight increase in the estimated range, up to 290 miles and more standard content which includes the automakers Co-Pilot360 driver-assistance tech for the lineup.
An entirely new package is also added – Mustang Nite Pony – which is only available for some Premium and GT Performance Edition models. For the Premium model, the package adds black exterior touches on the bumpers and door cladding, and gloss-black 19-inch wheels. The GT Performance Edition models on the other hand, see a 20-inch gloss-black wheel and black GT badging. A panoramic glass roof now comes standard on the GT and GT Performance Editions. And as if you needed anything else to add to this long list, there’s one more thing – two new exterior color options, Carbonized Gray Metallic and Vapor Blue Metallic.
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
The 2023 Mustang Mach-E comes available in 2 different ranges – the standard range 70.0-kWh battery or an extended range 91.0-kWh pack. Both options feed an electric motor mounted on the rear or both axles, which creates all-wheel-drive. On the sporty GT and GT Performance models, the motors combine to make 480 horsepower and up to 634 lb-ft of torque. Impressive, I know. Ford claims this power will send the Mach-E Performance from 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. The other models (less powerful) make between 266 and 346 horsepower and have between 317 and 428 lb-ft of torque. The Mach-E sports a quiet operation and provides a super-smooth ride.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
Ford estimates the range for this vehicle is anywhere between 224 and 312 miles, depending on the battery pack and the configuration of electric motors. Now, while its not anywhere close to the ranges of Tesla, the Ford Mach-E models have fast-charging capabilities and all come with a mobile charging device that can add up to 30 miles of range per night with a 120-volt outlet and up to 80 percent of battery life overnight with a 240-volt outlet. Ford charging stations can be ordered online and installed by certified electricians and have the ability to charge 32 miles per hour and recharge the battery overnight.
Fuel Economy and Real World MPG
Ford says this vehicle has a targeted EPA-estimated range of up to 312 miles in its California Route 1 trim, which comes exclusively in all wheel drive. The midlevel Premium model that comes in rear wheel drive follows thereafter with a Ford-estimated range of 306 miles. Keep in mind that there are a variety of ranges depending on the model and equipment, but the lowest range is 224 miles which comes from the Standard Range Battery models in all wheel drive. Ford has yet to determine the numbers for the 75mph highway fuel-economy route.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The Mustang Mach-E comes with Ford’s next-generation Sync infotainment system which uses machine learning to create a fully customizable drivers experience. Currently, it supports up to 3 driver profiles and 1 guest. It runs software through a vertically mounted 15.5 inch touchscreen allowing for easy access to the system’s vast amount of apps and features. Ford lets over-the-air updates roll out over time, constantly improving the system and adding new content which is a benefit. Top features include:
- Apple CarPlay
- Android Auto
- Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot
- Bang & Olufsen audio system
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The 2023 Mustang Mach-E comes available in a wide variety of driver-assistance technology. Key safety features include:
- Standard automated emergency braking with forward-collision warning
- Standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert
- Available adaptive cruise control with hands-free driving mode
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Ford’s current limited and powertrain warranty are competitive, although not really that great.
- Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
- Electrical components are covered for eight years or 100,000 miles
- No complimentary scheduled maintenance
